34th Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2020

President Ram Nath Kovind will inaugurate the 34th Surajkund International Crafts Fair on February 1, 2020, in Faridabad, Haryana.

This year, partner country in the fair is Uzbekistan and Himachal Pradesh was the theme-state.

The Mela is organized by the Surajkund Mela Authority & Haryana Tourism in collaboration with Union Ministries of Tourism, Textiles, Culture and External Affairs. The fair will help to promote tourism.

Hundreds of artists from Himachal Pradesh would perform multiple folk arts and dances. Around 30 countries will be part of this fair.

Surajkund International Crafts Mela was organized for the first time in 1987 to showcase the richness and diversity of handicrafts, handlooms, and cultural heritage of India.

Union Govt aims to achieve objective of Housing for All by 2022 under PMAY-G

Union Government aims to achieve objective of Housing for All by 2022 under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Grameen.

A total of over one crore 50 lakh rural houses have been completed in the last five years.

Ministry of Finance said, the eligible beneficiaries will get one crore 95 lakh houses in the second phase of the scheme. Government has set a target of 60 lakh houses for the current financial year.

Housing for all by 2022, the rural housing scheme Indira Awas Yojana has been revamped to Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin launched in the year 2015.

Flame-Throated Bulbul ‘Rubigula’ official mascot for Goa 2020 National Games

The official mascot for the Goa 2020 National Games was unveiled on 01 February 2020 by the Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant in the presence of Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju.

The Flame-Throated Bulbul is the state bird of Goa.

Goa will be hosting the 36th edition of the National Games from 20th October to 4th November 2020.

First indigenous bio-jet fuel powered IAF aircraft lands successfully in Leh

Indian Air Force’s (IAF) successfully operated AN-32 aircraft powered with 10% blend of Indian bio-jet fuel.

The aircraft took-off from Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, Leh and and its performance was validated at Chandigarh Air Base prior to undertaking the operational flight to Leh.

Bio-jet fuel is produced from non-edible ‘Tree Borne Oils’. They are grown and procured from the tribal areas of Chhattisgarh.

Govt appoints M.Ajit kumar as new chairman of CBIC

Central government has appointed M Ajit Kumar as the Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).

M.Ajit Kumar is an IRS (Indian Revenue Service) officer of the batch 1984.

He will replace Pranab Kumar.

Coronavirus declared global health emergency by WHO

World Health Organization has declared an international emergency over the novel coronavirus from China. The organization has declared an emergency as the disease has spread to 18 other countries apart from China where it originated.

At least 213 people in the China have died from the virus, mostly in Hubei, with almost 10,000 cases nationally.

Bank of Baroda partners CARE Ratings to assess credit quality of SMEs

Bank of Baroda said it has signed a pact with Care Ratings to assess credit quality of its small and medium enterprises (SME) customers.

The rating agency will evaluate the credit quality of existing and prospective SME customers of the bank.

Our tie-up with Care Ratings will strengthen the evaluation process and enable growth of the SME lending business,” Bank of Baroda Executive Director Vikramaditya Singh Khichi said in a statement.

Indian-origin Arvind Krishna elected new CEO of IBM

Indian-origin Arvind Krishna has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of American multinational IT company International Business Machines Corporation (IBM).

Arvind Krishna is currently IBM Senior Vice President for Cloud and Cognitive Software and will succeed Ginni Rometty.
