RBI launches ‘MANI’ app for visually challenged to identify currency notes

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das on Wednesday launched a mobile application called ‘Mobile Aided Note Identifier’ or ‘MANI’.

‘MANI’ Application would help visually challenged persons to identify the denomination of currency notes, and thereby facilitating their day to day transactions.

Interest rates on Small savings schemes unchanged for Jan-Mar quarter

The government has kept the interest rates on small savings schemes, including NSC and PPF, unchanged for the fourth quarter of 2019-20

Sanjay Gupta of ”Jagran” to be honoured with Lokmanya Tilak journalism award

Sanjay Gupta, the editor-in-chief of ”Jagran”, will be honoured with the ”Lokmanya Tilak National Journalism Award” for his contribution to the fieid of journalism.

The award, instituted by the Kesari-Maratha Trust, will be conferred on Sanjay Gupta in Pune.

The award is given to recognise the work of an individual, which he or she has carried out for the larger good of the journalistic field.

S Sundar appointed as interim MD and CEO of Lakshmi Vilas Bank

Lakshmi Vilas Bank (LVB) the former CFO, S Sundar has appointed as interim managing director & CEO (Whole Time Director) of the Bank.

In August 2019, the bank’s MD & CEO, Parthasarathi Mukherjee, resigned from the position and the post was left vacant.

Sundar started as a probationary officer with Andhra Bank and has more than 41 years of working experience in various banks including Andhra Bank, City Union Bank and LVB.

Kerala becomes first state to pass anti-CAA resolution

Kerala has become the first state in India to pass a resolution demanding rollback of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The Kerala assembly passed a resolution against the CAA.

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan had moved the anti-CAA resolution in the special one-day session, stating that the CAA act contradicts the basic values and principles of the Constitution.

Kerala tops NITI Aayog Sustainable Development Goal Index

NITI Aayog has released the 2nd edition of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) India Index.

  • Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim have shown maximum improvement
  • Kerala retained its rank as the top state with a score of 70.
  • Himachal Pradesh took the second spot while Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Telangana shared the third spot. While Bihar is at the bottom
  • Bihar, Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh are the worst performing states.
  • India’s composite score improved from 57 in 2018 to 60 in 2019 with major success in water and sanitation, industry and innovation.

HDFC gets Irdai nod to acquire 51.2% stake in Apollo Munich Health Insurance

HDFC has received its requisite approvals from Competition Commission of India, Reserve Bank of India and Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India to acquire 51.2% stake in Apollo Munich Health Insurance Company from Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited and other shareholders.

107th Indian Science Congress begins in Bengaluru

The 107th Indian Science Congress will begin in Bengaluru at the University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK campus.
