world Braille Day observed on 4th January
The world Braille Day is observed annually on 4 January to mark the remembrance of Louis Braille, the inventor of Braille for people with visual disabilities.
The day is celebrated by the United Nations (UN) and other organizations to bring awareness among society about the plight and cause of people with visual abilities.
Louis Braille was born on 4th January 1809 in the town of Coupvray in northern France. He lost his eyes just at the age of 3. This led to the invention of the language of 6 dots is popularly known as Braille.
India extends $75 million line of credit for solar parks in Cuba
India has extended a line of credit of USD 75 million (over Rs 500 crore) to Cuba for financing solar parks.
An agreement signed between Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) and Banco Exterior De Cuba in July last year came into effect from December 12, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said in a statement.

KVIC opens first silk processing plant in Gujarat
Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has opened its first Patola Saree silk processing plant at Surendranagar in Gujarat to cut down the cost of production of silk yarn and increase the sale and availability of raw material for Patola sarees and create livelihoods for women.
The plant has been set up by a khadi institution at a cost of Rs 75 lakh in which KVIC has contributed Rs 60 lakh.

Manav Thakkar becomes world no.1 in latest ITTF rankings
Indian table tennis player from Uttar Pradesh, Manav Thakkar became world no.1 in the latest International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) rankings in the Under-21 men’s singles category.
Among other Indians, Sathiyam has retained his 30th spot in the senior category, while Achanta Sharath Kamal ranked at 33rd position.
Manav Thakkar achieved the rank after claiming the Under-21 men’s singles title at the ITTF Challenge Plus Benemax-Virgo North American Open in Markham, Canada in December 2019.

Telangana Teen Malavath Poorna Scales Antarctica’s Highest Peak
Malvath Poorna from Telangana scaled Mt Vinson Massif, the highest mountain peak in Antarctica. Mt Vinson Massif is 4,987 metres above sea level.
Eighteen-year-old Poorna became the first and youngest tribal woman in the world to set foot on the six tallest mountain peaks across six continents.
Poorna has so far scaled Mt. Everest (Asia, 2014), Mt. Kilimanjaro (Africa, 2016), Mt. Elbrus (Europe, 2017), Mt. Aconcagua (South America, 2019), Mt. Cartsnez (Oceania region, 2019) and Mt. Vinson Massif (Antarctica, 2019).

RevFin, a digital lending startup has partnered up with PNB MetLife India Insurance Company Limited to provide protection to customers through life insurance on their loans.

Dubai-based Indian girl Sucheta Satish won the 2020 Global Child Prodigy Awards
A 13-year-old Dubai-based Indian girl Sucheta Satish has won the 100 Global Child Prodigy Award in Delhi.
She made her double world record in January 2018Dubai at the Indian Consulate Auditorium, as a 12-year-old when she sings in 102 different languages over 6 hours and 15 minutes.
The Global Child Prodigy Award celebrates the talent and power of children in different categories such as music, arts, dancing, modelling, writing, acting, innovation, science, sports.
